At Harmony Day Spa, we believe it is important to give back to the communities that we serve. We are committed to philanthropic endeavors and have sponsored and participated in charities such as Girls Inc, CASA, ACLA, The March of Dimes, Hudson Cradle, Team in Training Triathlon for the Leukemia and Lymphedema Society, and the Community Food Bank. We also support local businesses and, during lockdown for Covid-19, we mobilized for our frontline health care workers.
Foster Children and Self-Harm/Suicide Prevention
Foster youth who receive positive coping mechanisms are more able to reduce stress and anxiety caused by adverse childhood experiences and are less likely to resort to extreme measures such as self-harming or suicide. The Felix Organization was founded in 2006 by iconic Hip Hop musician and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and Emmy Award-winning Hollywood casting director, Sheila Jaffe, both adoptees. This organization provides inspiring opportunities and new experiences to enrich the lives of children who are growing up in the foster care system. Harmony Day Spa gravitated to this charity and its founders’ positive message for foster youth, especially teens and tweens. Their programs give youth the chance to leave behind their difficult circumstances to explore the natural world, gain independence and make new friends. Through their programs, the children they serve are able to overcome fears, try new activities, and form meaningful bonds with others.
Covid-19 Meal Train
All our employees are used to working with their hands all day, so during the lockdown, we needed something to do with those idle hands. Other than stuff our faces, we set up a meal train for the month of April 2020 to go to three area hospitals and feed our health care warriors. Not only were we able to show our appreciation for the monumental job they’ve undertaken since the Covid-19 virus surprised us in early 2020, but we also were able to support small businesses (like us!) by ordering the food from local restaurants. A win-win during this unprecedented and difficult time. For more information about this effort and the contributing businesses, check out our blog about it.
As alternative wellness providers and licensed spa professionals we often see first-hand that spa services are no longer a luxury or pampering item, but simple, unselfish self-care. We often see the effects that self-harm, anxiety, depression, or previous traumas may have on someone during a treatment. We choose to treat our clients with dignity, awareness, empathy, and inclusion coupled with professional technical skills. Keeping with our commitment to Mental Health First Aid Awareness, we could not be any prouder to support the following two causes.
Suicide Prevention
Malicious Women Co. was born out of founder Lacie Marsh’s loss of her “heart friend” to suicide. This “say what you mean, not what you should” company isn’t just about sass and good smells—Lacie strives to do something for those who might be suffering. Each candle has a little humor, snark, kindness...and maliciousness! All inspired by her dear friend. The collections are meant to reflect our strength, our coping mechanisms, and our honesty about what it’s like to struggle with depression and loss.
Since 2017, Malicious Women Co. has donated a portion of all their proceeds to charities supporting suicide prevention, women’s issues and empowerment programs, breast health awareness, and programs providing food and essentials to Federal workers impacted by the 2019 government shutdown.
Malicious Women Co. candles make great gifts, but the really important thing is this company is the sassiest of sass and shares Harmony Day Spa’s mission of giving back. We carry a wonderful selection of both their PG and R-rated candles in the spa. Out of respect for our diverse clientele, we do not post images of them online, but you are welcome to stop by and browse at your next appointment or whenever you’re in the area. Your purchase will continue to support their critical mission “to present hope and love to those who are struggling with depression, anxiety, suicide, addiction, self-harm, and all other personal battles that are overwhelming.”
